You'll have to put in a new ball head. It's not possible to get it back on again, at least not as good as it used to be.

When you turn the nuts loose on the rod, it is necessary to make sure the whole rod does not turn. You can either prevent the rod from turning by holding the rod with a pair of pliers or hold the rod directly because it has two flat surfaces where a 10mm wrench fits on. If you do not hold it and secure the rod against turning, then the whole rod turns and the ball at the end is forced out of the socket.

If it's the steering rod, you need a very long allen key #5 with a length of about 350mm. You can also look in your set of ratchet wrench if it has a #5 allen bit and use enough extenders that you reach about 350mm of length. You can then reach the allen bolt that clamps the steering axle to the steering lever through one of the two holes in the wheel box. Of you look in the hole (use a lamp) you can see the allen bolt in the middle of the carbon bridge. When the bolt is loose, the steering lever freely turns on the steering axle. Pull the steer vertically upward and the lever will fall off. Then you can get the whole assembly out through the hole in the wheelbox.

When it's the other rod, that is easier: on top of the bridge, the frame is bolted to the bridge with two bolts. Unscrew the two nuts (key#10) from the two bolts and push the bolts down. Then you can move the whole assembly to the side through the hole in the wheelbox.

The old ball rod has to be unscrewed with a thin 8mm key. The ball rod has two flat sides for that, directly underneath the ball.

Onkos tuon pallon kaula kenossa, vai valehtelevatko silmäni? Jos ei muuten näy, ota irti ja pyöritä pöytää pitkin, niin näkyy hyvin, jos on mutkalla.

Tämä pallon kaulan taipuminen on juuri se vaurio, joka muuttuu mahdottomaksi, kun käytetään läpi pultattavaa pallonivelpäätä, tai kumipuslapäätä. Tällaisessa tapauksessa itse tanko tietenkin kannattaa tehdä ohutseinäisemmästä alumiiniputkesta, jotta on joku järkevä, helposti korjattava kohta, josta se ylikuormitustapauksessa hajoaa. Tästä seuraa, että rakenteesta tulee kevyempi ja kulutustakestävämpi ja välyksettömyyden takia hiljaisempi. Nivelen putoaminen pallolta esim. säädön yhteydessä muuttuu sekin mahdottomaksi.
